I Signed up for Children’s Book Pro (CBP)
What is Children’s Book Pro?
Children’s Book Pro (CBP) is a 10-week eCourse that is taught by three top-tier children’s book illustrators (Jake Parker, Lee White, and Will Terry). It’s filled with premium video content to guide you step-by-step through the process of illustrating a children's book and more!
Here are a few screen shots directly from the CBP landing page:
Why am I taking this course?
I’m in the middle of illustrating a book and pitching to publishers with a friend and we have no idea what we’re doing. Plus, illustrating children’s books is on my bucket list. I have a couple of concepts that I would really like to breath some kid lit life into. Additionally, my husband and I are seriously considering creating a comic book and I think this course will give me a boost in that arena as well.
How did I learn about this course?
For a long time I religiously followed the podcast 3 Point Perspective and even subscribed to SVS Learn for a year. But it wasn’t the right season for me and I wasn’t able to pursue illustration at that time. I am still subscribed to their emails, but I’m pretty sure most of their stuff goes to my spam. However the notifications for CBP went through, I think, because the course is hosted through Circle. And I am an active Circle user through a couple other online course. So I received about 1-2 emails about with in 5 days before the deadline to enroll. And the season and timing felt right and with their 3 month payment plan, I was on board.
How am I feeling about taking this course?
To be honest, under qualified. Inexperienced. Excited. Nervous. Everyone will be way better than me. Ready to learn. A feeling of this feels right and good. I know I’m in good hands. I’ve been following all three illustrators for years and I know they are fully qualified to teach this course. I have no doubts about their teaching and credibility.
I’m hoping that I can rise to my expectations and dreams with this course as my launch pad. In awe and wonder of the variety and immensity of this creative field and the breadth of talent and styles and skills. It’s a lot. But overall it’s a really positive feeling.
Also, I am really stoked that this round consists of a VERY small student body. Like 18-20 students. Where as previous eCourses I’ve taken in the past year have jumped into the range of 2,000+ students. Very overwhelming and it’s easy to feel like a tiny fish in the massive ocean with those groups. I LOVE that I will be able to connect with some of these illustrators directly for 10 weeks straight.
Overall I am thrilled to be learning and jumping back into original artwork and illustration. And I couldn’t ask for a better team of instructors.
